Hi, I'm the person behind Asakusa Local Guide.

I live right in the middle of Asakusa, in Tokyo's old downtown. I have been part of my neighborhood association's youth group for five years, which means every May I'm out on the streets for Sanja Matsuri, and the rest of the year I'm here for the everyday life of the neighborhood.

Before settling here I backpacked through more than 40 countries, so I know what it feels like to arrive somewhere new and not know where to start. This site is the advice I'd give you if you were my friend visiting Asakusa.

What you'll find here

  • Walking routes and itineraries I've tested myself
  • Opening times and prices with the month I last checked them
  • Where locals eat, and what's worth skipping
  • Festivals and seasonal events, from the inside

How I make money

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you book a hotel, tour or eSIM through them, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It helps me keep this site free and independent. I only recommend things I'd tell a friend about. Read the full disclosure.
